Cottbus is Brandenburg's second-largest city after Potsdam and is located on the south-eastern edge of the Spreewald. Cottbus, like many places in the Spreewald region, is shaped by the Sorbian-Wendish history, which characterizes the townscape and everyday life of people. In 2017, the city of Cottbus was one of the top five rising Tourist cities according to TUI Deutschland GmbH.
