Royal demense Bornstedt
Just a little walk and within a stone’s throw off Sanssoucis Castle, “Kronsgut Bornstedt” is situated. It represents a facet of the courtly living, which used to be present at the Potsdam residence of the King of Hohenzollern: the simple, rural, easy side of life. The royal demesne Bornstedt was a prime example for an estate agriculturally used. For years, it used to be the residence of the crown prince’s family.
Potsdam castle
Potsdam owes its distinctive charm to its glorious castles and gardens.
Sanssouci used to be the former summer palace of Frederick the Great and was designed according to the king’s ideas by his friend, the architect Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff(1699 70 1753).
The palace is little more than a large single-story villa and was specified to the king’s private requirements. Once a year, the history is resurrected at the annual “Potsdamer Schössernacht” a stunning spectacle
Cecilienhof
Cecilienhof Castle became generally known in the world by the Potsdam Agreement.
Cecilienhof is the last building that was built in the name of the former ruling house of Hohenzollern by the architect Paul Schultze-Naumburg, who followed the schemes of the English Tudor style.
Here, the Potsdam Meetings of “the Big Three” were held from July 17th to August 2nd, 1945.
